Eco Card is a pre-payment card which can be used to make purchases online and in real world stores. It can be used wherever MasterCard is accepted which, let’s face it, is just about everywhere. EcoCard was originally introduced in the year 2000 as a virtual e-wallet service, enabling purchases to be made online. The card operates as a pre-payment card, which means that it must be pre-loaded with funds before you can use it. It is not a credit card. This may sound like a bit of a disadvantage, but in fact, because it is based entirely on pre-payment, you do not need a bank account to own one. In fact, you do not even have to undergo a credit check, so just about anyone at all can apply for an Eco Card. If you do have a bank account, this card is run completely independently of it, although you can use your own account to load the card if you wish. There are around a couple of dozen different ways to load your card. If you do not have a conventional bank account at all, the easiest way is perhaps by using a pre-payment card like Paysafecard. There is no charge for applying for a card or setting up your Eco Account. Payment transactions are free too. The only charges you are likely to face are for withdrawing cash from your account, which at the time of writing are set at 2%.
EcoAccounts can make payments in just under 50 different currencies and once your account is topped up with funds, can be used to make payments on websites without the need to disclose any personal banking details. You can also download a special app which enables you to use the service on the go with your Apple or Android smart phone. The physical Eco Card can also be used in real world locations wherever MasterCard is accepted. To help you avoid currency transaction fees, you can also apply for up to three different cards. So if you are a regular traveller, it could be useful to apply for three cards, one in British Pounds (£), one in U.S. Dollars ($) and one in Euros (€). And because these cards are pre-payment, there is no chance of overspending or running up large debts or interest payments either.
